Catch-It Meeting - Open to all 4-H'ers

Greetings La Plata County 4-H Community –

On January 25th at 7:00pm at the La Plata County Fairgrounds in the La Plata and Lightner rooms (upstairs in Exhibit Hall) there will be a Catch-it Meeting.  This Catch-it meeting is required for participants of the program, however we wanted to open up this meeting to all 4-H’ers.  We are doing this because this meeting will be a great educational opportunity for all 4-H’ers that have livestock projects or are interested in doing a livestock project in the future.  The class will talk about livestock reproduction and other important animal husbandry issues.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at the Extension Office (970.382.6460)

Livestock Judging Practice

Thursday Meeting Dates will be 2nd and 4th Thursdays at the college beginning at 6:30 pm.  Upcoming meeting dates are Jan 12, 26, Feb 9, 23 March 8, 22?.  We're still early in the season so if you know anyone who is interested in judging, please bring them on the 12th of January.

Most likely, we'll have a Saturday practice on the following Saturdays for example Jan 14th would be a Sat practice.  Weather and livestock availability permitting.

Ag Expo Contest:  We've made arrangements to host the livestock judging contest on Friday, March 16th at Ag Expo. I've attached the contest information and entry forms.   Kali will begin contacting sponsor to help with awards.  If you know of any businesses that might be willing to help sponsor our awards, let her know.  Parents:  We will be preparing lunch again this year and will need everyone's help.

Texas trip for Seniors:  The West Texas A&M and Clarendon College contests are scheduled for March 23-24th (earlier than previous years) so please put these dates on your calendar.  In years past, we leave Thursday, March 22nd and return Sunday, March 25th.

See you Thursday.

Leadership Development Conference (LDC)

Leadership Development Conference (LDC)
Denver, CO  - January 28 - 30th

Attention 4-H Leaders and Senior Members.

Leadership Development Conference is a State 4-H Event for Senior members and Leaders.  The Conference takes place in Denver, CO at the end of this month.  This is a great opportunity for Senior members to attend a State 4-H event.  At the conference, you will have the opportunity to participate in ice-breaker activities, think-tank meetings, district meetings (San Juan Basin), hear motivational speakers talk about how to develop your leadership skills, be active in a community service event, and attend a banquet and dance.  In addition, you will get to meet other 4-H'ers from around the State and share ideas and stories of your 4-H experience.  Furthermore, on Monday January 30th you will be able to go to our State Capitol and go on a tour and meet your local State legislators.

Leader's can also go to LDC and they have many beneficial trainings to take part in focused towards the Agent and Leader.

Cost for the conference for LPC 4-H members will $100 dollars and will cover your transportation, lodging, registration and some meals (you will have to bring extra money for about 4 meals).  We will also be providing partial scholarships to those that need assistance.

Because we live far from Denver, we will be leaving very early (4:00am) on December 28th and returning late on the 30th.  Space is limited for this Conference, so please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to attend.  We will be charged an extra $20 dollars for registration after January 13th.

For more information check out this site and please call the extension office so we can register you online.

Happy New Year,
